The Royal School Wolverhampton

The Royal School Wolverhampton

The Royal School will become a Free School in September 2016. As such, the School will only be able to accept British and EEA students as it will no longer have its highly trusted sponsor (HTS) Licence holder for Tier 4 child and general visas. However, this will mean that European Union and EEA students will find the School very attractive in terms of its free tuition and very affordable Boarding fees.

The Royal is located in a leafy suburb of the city of Wolverhampton very close to England's second largest city, Birmingham. Our pupils thus have ample opportunity to experience the rich contrasts of British life. We draw day pupils from the Wolverhampton area and boarders from both the UK and Europe. Our co-educational dayrooms encourage social mixing between boarders and day pupils and the Sixth Form Centre provides a vibrant hub for the School.

It is a small, cohesive community with a friendly atmosphere for both day pupils and boarders alike. Our strong academic tradition is based upon individual attention, as well as  excellent pastoral care founded on respect, tolerance and understanding of others.  Students achieve their full academic potential, whilst a wide range of extra-curricular activities is available to develop character and leadership.

We prepare pupils for Oxbridge and other top universities while also catering to pupils of all abilities.  The School regularly achieves high standards in both A-Level and G.C.S.E. results, particularly in mathematics and the arts.

The Royal combines traditional values with a modern outlook and a 'real-world' attitude.  At the Royal, education is about developing the whole individual.

The School is easy to get to, being only 40 minutes from Birmingham International Airport. We also run a Boarders’ Holiday Programme for boarders who do not wish to return home at half term or Easter, reducing the cost and inconvenience of frequent travel for many of our pupils.

Low class sizes and the close care of our tutors help to ensure that pupils achieve their full academic potential, whilst a wide range of extra-curricular activities is available to develop character and leadership.

Academic record

Our most able pupils regularly excel and we send many pupils to Oxbridge and other top universities. At the same time, we also ensure that the needs of pupils of all abilities are addressed. Whilst 95 per cent of our leavers go to university, some have other ambitions and we ensure that they are fully prepared for their future. Departments in the School have seen great investment in recent years, with a particular emphasis on the STEM subjects.

Boarding facilities

We have a purpose-built Sixth Form boys boarding house, as well as a young boys' boarding house where boys share two to three to a room - girls' houses have twin rooms with the possibility of a single room in the Upper Sixth.
