Rossall School is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational boarding and day schools, in a picturesque and historic setting on the Lancashire coastline. Amidst striking architecture, on a generous 160-acre campus, boys and girls aged 2–18 are nurtured in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Pupils enjoy learning and living in a friendly, busy and challenging community both within the classroom, after school and at weekends. The sense of community that defines the School is achieved largely through the unrivalled standard of pastoral care, by the diverse pupil base and also by the permanent boarding population.

Grounded by the traditional British education, all pupils have the opportunity to develop friendships with others from around the world. Curriculum

Pupils can choose to study the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Diploma or A-levels at sixth form. The Junior School is accredited to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme.

Sport and Facilities

Rossall has recently spent £4m in refurbishing boarding accommodation, catering and dining facilities and an all-weather playing surface. Facilities include two information technology suites, an Astronomy and Space Science Centre with a planetarium and Victorian observatory, spacious sports fields, gymnasium, 25-metre heated indoor swimming pool, squash courts, climbing wall, shooting range, fives courts and even a beach where you can, at certain times of the year, participate in the annual games of ‘Ross Hockey’, a type of hockey unique to Rossall.

In addition, there are performance rooms for music, drama and dance, including a 450-seater venue. Rossall also has an impressive Gothic-style church which is home to the nationally known School choir.

Boarding from age 7

For younger pupils (aged 7–13) there is a dedicated Junior boarding house which has a home-from-home family atmosphere. Junior boarding activities involve weekend trips to the local town accompanied by a house tutor as well as fun off-site excursions such as karting, swimming, cinema, shopping, boating, theme parks, etc.

Entrance examinations and scholarships

To enable a wide range of children to join Rossall we offer a large number of scholarships each year. We offer academic, music and sports scholarships to children in years 3, 5, 7, 9 and 12. Entrance and scholarship examinations are held in January or February each year. The School offers exclusive competitive discounts to military and clergy families.
