We are proud to be in the top five of all British universities for the number of students taking year-long work placements, and are ranked consistently high for our teaching and research. It is not surprising then, that this year, we have seen the largest increase in applications to our undergraduate degree courses out of all UK universities.

With more than 6,000 corporate connections (partners include: BP, Microsoft, HSBC, Unilever, Siemens, Rank Xerox, Marks & Spencer, Rolls Royce, Toyota, Capita Consulting and the BBC) we are able to offer you a wide range of opportunities for paid work placements, and both practical and paid internships as part of many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. For example, this could mean undertaking a one-year placement on one of many of our undergraduate degrees, or even our postgraduate computing course, or a short internship as part of the course, such as postgraduate Journalism.
The benefits to you are many. You can apply the knowledge you have gained in a professional context and as a result you are more likely to achieve higher scores in your studies. Many employers consider the work placement to be an extended interview. Some of our students have even been offered a full-time job as a direct result of their experience.
