Birmingham City University is a large, established university with around 24,000 students studying a wide range of courses. The University has a friendly, welcoming approach to all students - these come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, vary greatly in age and cover a number of nationalities. The resulting mix creates a vibrant and exciting student body.

What's on Offer
The University offers a range of courses in disciplines from foundation to PhD level. Subject areas include architecture, construction, property and housing, art and design, business and management, computing and IT, education/teacher training, English, engineering, law, social sciences. Courses are taught by friendly staff in modern, well-equipped surroundings. There are six faculties, working across seven teaching sites, all within 15 minutes of the city centre.

Courses relate theoretical study to real life. Strong links with industry, commerce and the professions ensures courses remain professionally relevant and reflect ever-changing practice with many courses including a work placement.

Birmingham City University's careers service and job shop provide advice to students and graduates. Other services include disability services, financial advice, childcare, counselling and healthcare. The Birmingham City University Students’ Union also operates a free, confidential and impartial advice service. The multi-faith chaplaincy has three full-time chaplains and there are various faith societies within the Union. A personal assistance scheme for disabled students is also available.

We're rapidly becoming a first choice for students. A table recently published in influential sector magazine Times Higher Education showed that last year Birmingham City University saw the biggest rise in student applications of any UK university - a 35.6 per cent increase compared with a national average of eight per cent.

Our research work is attracting attention too, having been classed as ‘world-leading' in the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008. We're proud of our strong partnerships with industry and the professions as these ensure that every aspect of our courses is designed to equip you with the skills and qualifications you need in today's job market. In fact, many of our courses involve work placements, making our graduates highly employable.
