Coleg Menai provides a wide choice of academic and vocational courses to around 10,000 students including more than 100 international students from over 26 countries. We have established a reputation for success and enabling our students to develop themselves within a supportive and friendly learning community. Many of its departments have been graded "outstanding" by goverment inspectors and the college has won the overall Wales Quality Award.
Bangor, the City of Learning of North Wales, is in an area of great natural beauty. Our students are able to study in a safe and beautiful environment.
The Coleg Menai International Centre is in partnership with the University of Wales, Bangor and students can progress to studies in Bangor or other UK universities.
Academic strengths
The Coleg Menai International Centre has programmes for students from all around the world. The main aim for all students is to gain the qualifications and skills they need for higher education or employment. Every student has their own individual language learning programme and a personal tutor to help them achieve their learning aims.
More and more students celebrate graduation from our higher education courses every year. The College is expanding its range of higher education courses and qualifications. You can study for Higher National Diplomas and Certificates and some degrees.
We offer a range of further education courses from A-levels to vocational programmes including engineering; construction; catering; hairdressing and beauty therapy; business; leisure and tourism; art, design and media; health and social care; IT; performing arts; accountancy; and management.
Facilities
The college is equipped with excellent modern facilities including a training restaurant, travel shop, beauty therapy rooms, hairdressing training salon, and art studios.
The library and learning resources centres provide access to a full range of resources including audio-visual resources, IT facilities, internet, journals and magazines, newspapers and study facilities. Staff are always there to help you use the library and resources.
There are open-access IT centres where you can drop in and use the extensive computer facilities for your coursework and to access the internet. Every centre has a member of staff who will help you if you have problems. All students have their own email address.
The International Office provides support for students, offering specialist information and advice. There is also a personal counselling and support service available where students can discuss individual problems in complete confidence with specially trained members of staff.
If you enjoy keeping fit and taking part in sporting activities, you will be able to take advantage of an excellent sports hall at the Bangor site. The College’s location between the sea and mountains offers superb opportunities for outdoor pursuits. There are internationally recognised sports centres nearby, such as the Plas Menai National Watersports Centre.
Student life
Students meet together for organised social events and have visits to places of interest in the United Kingdom. Bangor has all the entertainment facilities you would expect in a student city. Students also go to Liverpool and Manchester for concerts and clubs. Coleg Menai and the University’s Students’ Union offer a wide range of sporting activities, and social, academic and cultural clubs and societies.
