Teaching Quality
Recognised as a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning by the Higher Education Funding Council, Edge Hill has been awarded Commendations for Teaching and Learning in every subject review by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in the last three years.
Research and Knowledge Transfer
The university works with a range of client organisations from the public, voluntary and private sectors, to enhance learning, performance, delivery and understanding. Our Department for Research and Knowledge transfer coordinates research degree programmes and knowledge transfer activities in all Faculties and Departments.
Professional Accreditation
Edge Hill is one of only fourteen institutions in the country to have NCTJ accreditation for our undergraduate Journalism programme.Edge Hill is the lead contractor for the assessment of Higher Level Teaching Assistants in the North West, on behalf of the Training and Development Agency for Schools.
Investment
£60million has been invested in the last ten years to develop a wide range of new, high quality, market-aware modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supported by state-of-the-art facilities. The Ormskirk Campus boasts a lake, piazza area and comfortable accommodation for 670 students.
The Rose Theatre provides a diverse programme from visiting professional companies and Sporting Edge offers some of the best community sports facilities in the North West. Ambitious expansion plans will see the campus grow significantly by 2020, with an investment of £200m and the recent acquisition of 84 acres of land to the east of the existing site.
Growth
Edge Hill University is one of the fastest growing institutions in the UK, increasing applications three-fold since 2000. This unprecedented growth continued with a further 13.2 per cent rise in 2008. Edge Hill educates over 20,000 students every year, with a quarter postgraduate and just over half part-time. We are now the largest provider of Initial Teacher Training for secondary education in the UK.
Student Support
Edge Hill has a strong track record in student support. Our Careers Centre is the first in Higher Education in the North West to be accredited with the Matrix quality standard. Responsive support systems include trained counsellors, a health centre and inclusive support services for students with learning and personal support needs. Our extensive IT and library provision has been acknowledged with the Learning Information Resource Centre at Aintree. Economic Impact
