OVERVIEW
Overview

Welcome to the University of Bolton, one of the UK's most student-focussed universities. It is one of the newest universities in the UK, but able to trace its roots back to 1824. In the 2007 International Student Barometer survey, our students ranked Bolton second out of 84 universities for the quality of their learning experience. Our students will always comment on the high levels of support they receive both in and out of academic study; and the friendliness of staff and the local community that makes the University of Bolton an attractive place to study. The teaching quality at Bolton has always won the highest ratings possible from the Government's quality control agency and there is professional accreditation for more than 30 of the taught programmes.

The University of Bolton has a student body of around 11,000, which enables students to learn at a university where no-one feels anonymous, in a thriving town close to the big cities of Manchester and Liverpool. There are currently approximately 550 international students on campus from over 60 countries. The University also has close to 2,000 students studying on Bolton programmes taught overseas, including the new campus in Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.

The University is firmly focussed on developing its students for their professional lives and helping every student to achieve their career ambitions. This practical, professional training gives Bolton graduates a distinct advantage in the workplace. Many are exposed to new employment opportunities by working on 'live' projects for businesses during their study or through course related placements.

Academic Strengths
Bolton offers a full and challenging range of courses - from HNDs and foundation programmes to undergraduate, Master’s, MPhil and PhD research degrees. There are also Continuing Professional Development and Short Courses on offer. Bolton offers a number of niche programmes, including the areas of textiles and computer games. Please refer to the website for further information - www.bolton.ac.uk

An added advantage of the University of Bolton is the fact that there are two intakes a year - September and January - for the majority of programmes. Students with appropriate qualifications (including English Language) and personal qualities may gain access to the second or third year of many undergraduate programmes.
