The University of Aberdeen has one of the largest groupings of biological and environmental scientists in Europe and is renowned for its science courses, from physical sciences to medical sciences. The University is a major international centre for teaching and research in all divisions of scientific study. Four Nobel prizes have been awarded for work carried out or begun at Aberdeen, including the invention of the life-saver insulin.

Academic strengths

Science research is supported by well-founded laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and computing facilities. The College of Physical Sciences comprises the areas of Archaeology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Engineering, Geography and Environment, Geology and Petroleum Geology, Mathematical Sciences,Physics and Spatial Panning and Rural Surveying.

The College of Life Sciences and Medicine offers study in the areas of biological sciences, psychology, medicine & dentistry and medical sciences. Both colleges have a number of specialist postgraduate taught courses, as well as a vibrant research culture. They aim to provide postgraduate students with a culture of excellence and are committed to promoting a dynamic link between teaching and research.

The University also has a unique relationship with several renowned research institutes through the Aberdeen Research Consortium. This affords excellent opportunities to undertake collaborative research, as appropriate.

Career prospects
Within six months of graduating, 97 per cent of Aberdeen students enter jobs, research posts or further study, indicating the links with industry and research centres that Aberdeen works hard to implement.
