York St John University is located in York, one of northern England's most beautiful cathedral cities. York St John is a public university founded in 1841, and offers a wide variety of academic subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The University is just minutes from the city centre, surrounded by green lawns, lovely flowers and trees. The City of York is a major tourist destination and our University is situated just outside the ancient city walls within sight of York Minster cathedral. York has a very long history and dates back to Roman and Viking times. The city's many museums pay tribute to this long and interesting history.
York is a dynamic city. With around 20,000 students and thousands of tourists visiting the city all year round, it really is a lively place to be. It’s great for nightlife of all kinds – you’ll find pubs, cinemas, restaurants, theatres and music venues to suit every kind of taste imaginable. York is also fantastic for shopping. The campus is literally minutes away from the city centre, so it is perfectly placed for nights out and retail therapy jaunts.
The City of York is located at the centre of North Yorkshire. Its location at the very heart of Britain and the excellent motorway and rail links, mean that York couldn't be easier to reach. London and Edinburgh can both be reached directly on the train in around two hours.
The University was originally founded in the mid-19th century as a teacher-training college, but now offers a wide variety of academic subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The campus has teaching facilities for a range of degree subjects, as well as cafes, shops, halls of residence, a sports building, drama, music, dance and television studios, a learning centre with 24-hour access, a health centre and the Students’ Union.
As a relatively small university, we get to know our students well and work hard to help you realise your own potential. Treating you as an individual is at the heart of what we do here. Our students leave with a real feeling of not only succeeding academically, but also with a belief that they have grown as a person. Many of our graduates say that their time at York St John University really was a life-changing experience.
