University of Bradford

OVERVIEW
Over

In 1882 when we began as Bradford Technical College, Bradford was the textile capital of the world, its renowned products reaching the four corners of the globe. Today, our world-class teaching reaches out to those same four corners, welcoming students from over 110 nations together in one place of learning excellence.

We were granted our Royal Charter in 1966 which makes us one of the traditional universities, and as much as we are aware of our origins, we look only to the future. A future that we continue to build on our foundations of academic excellence and ‘Making Knowledge Work’ inspiring students, scholars and teachers alike to come to the University of Bradford.

Academic strengths
The University’s mission of ‘Making Knowledge Work’ ensures that our curriculum includes many vocationally-relevant courses providing the up-to-date personal skills necessary to succeed in a fast-changing world. Your future success is our top priority and this is reflected in the University’s impressive graduate employment record.

We have an international reputation for research in telecommunications and electronics, archaeology and life sciences and, notably, biomedical sciences and pharmacy. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008), eight out of 10 Bradford academic staff who participated in the RAE were deemed to be producing research of ‘international’ and ‘world-leading’ quality. Excellent scores were also achieved for teaching quality in the last six subject reviews by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

Our key strengths are in the fields of management, engineering, health and life sciences, social and international studies and informatics. Our School of Management is one of Europe's leading full-service business schools, and it has been delivering innovative, world-class business and management education for over 40 years.

The full-time MBA is AMBA and EQUIS accredited, and rated among the top 100 MBA programmes in the world (Financial Times 2009). Our MSc Management programmes enable you to specialise in any one of the major areas of business (Finance, Marketing, HRM, International Business), and are currently ranked 9th in the UK (Financial Times 2009).

The Department of Peace Studies is the world’s largest university centre for the study of peace and conflict resolution, and is a world leader in research in the following key areas: conflict resolution; international politics and security studies; politics, development and social change. The Bradford Centre for International Development is one of the UK’s leading university-based centres for development studies.
