For over 50 years Cambridge Tutors College has offered high quality education to young people from the UK and across the world. Governed by a charitable trust, we have three principal aims: to promote high academic standards, to foster international understanding, welcoming people of all faiths, nationalities and backgrounds; and to create an adult-focused environment which prepares students for higher education.
Fundamental to the College’s ethos is small group teaching – no group is larger than Nine– and regular testing – students take a test in every subject every week. This combination of small classes and examination practice has proved to be highly successful in giving students the confidence to succeed.
The College has grown over the years, both in size and reputation, but still offers the individual attention that can only be gained in a small college. Most of our students, from over 25 countries, are studying A-levels and their achievements, year-on-year, are impressive.
In 2009, they produced an A level pass rate of 99 per cent with an outstanding 82 per cent of all grades being either A or B. All students who held offers from either Cambridge or Oxford were successful and over 60 per cent of all leavers won a place at a UK Russell Group university. 50 per cent of students achieved either three or four A grades. The College also runs a fast-track 1-year GCSE programme, catering for students from 15+.
Situated in a pleasant parkside location, CTC is just a few minutes walk from the town centre, East Croydon station and bus and tram routes. It is close to London, just 15 minutes by train, but surrounded by parkland and quiet residential streets. The majority of our overseas students reside with local host families, carefully selected by the College.
Nowadays the College is classified as an independent school and is inspected by, amongst others, the Independent Schools Inspectorate, whose 2008 report was extremely positive. Facilities and resources at CTC are modern, all subjects have specialist resources and the Osborne Centre, opened in 2003, offers state-of the–art computer technology as well as a comfortable library and a lecture theatre. An all-day café provides a wide variety of fresh food and drinks.
The College’s welfare provision includes a team of trained professionals and all students have a personal tutor. Sporting and social activities take place each week and students are encouraged to take part. There is a good selection of clubs and societies that students can join, and trip and visits take place to places such as Euro Disney Paris and London attractions.
