Canterbury Christ Church University is a modern University located in the historic and attractive City of Canterbury in the South East of England. As well as the facilities on the main campus, the city and all its activities is only a five minute walk away. There are currently over 15,500 full-time and part-time students studying on a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, research and English language programmes.
Canterbury is one of the best-known cities in Britain and is visited by over two and half million tourists a year. Canterbury is situated in Kent, a county known as The Garden of England due to its attractive countryside. Canterbury is within easy reach of Gatwick and Heathrow Airport and is only one and a quarter hours by train from London.
There are also regular coach services to and from London and frequent rail connections to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam and Koln (via Ashford International and Ebbsfleet International Stations). The ferry port of Dover and The Channel Tunnel car terminal are only 30 kilometres away.
Academic strengths
The University has five faculties: Arts and Humanities (including Media), Education, Health and Social Care, Business and Management and Sciences (including Computing). One of our most successful programmes is the International Foundation leading to a BA/BSc. The Business and Management MBA attracts an increasing number of students. Award winning students have attended our MA Media programme. The English and Language Studies Department is well established as a provider of top-quality English Language programmes e.g. all year round General English and Academic English including IELTS preparation.
Facilities
Our comprehensive University support services include a dedicated Student Advisor (International) and a dedicated administrative assistant for international students' accommodation placements. All international students are guaranteed accommodation at least during their first year. The International Office offers dedicated support for international students from admission and orientation and English Language support classes and on programme Academic English support.
All students have access to a wide range of computing facilities and the University network is constantly upgraded to incorporate the latest technology. There are networked computer rooms across all campuses and within the University's library there is an 'Open Access Area' providing computers with internet, email, word processing facilities, together with a quarter of a million books, periodicals, CDs, videos and DVDs.
The University has a language laboratory and a self-access centre with a member of staff available for assistance. There is a variety of listening material and a range of material for pronunciation, vocabulary development, examination preparation and grammar practice. The language laboratory contains a selection of materials for self-access learning outside regular class times, Students may have the opportunity to take free classes in foreign languages such as French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Italian.
Student life
With two other higher education establishments based in Canterbury, the City has a large student population. This gives Canterbury a very lively atmosphere, which is ideal for students. The Students' Union organises a number of leisure activities including a wide range of sporting activities e.g. badminton, volleyball, basketball, karate, cricket, rugby, football, self-defence, hockey and tennis.
