Established in 1451, the University of Glasgow is one of the UK’s oldest and most prestigious seats of learning, recognised internationally for its groundbreaking work. In 2009, the University was listed among the world’s top one per cent of universities by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
The University of Glasgow has more than 15,000 undergraduates, 5,000 postgraduates and around 5,000 adult learners. It attracts students from Iceland to India, from Cardiff to Korea and from South America to the south of England. Today, students from more than 100 countries around the globe meet like-minded people while they study on the beautiful campus, building friendships and networks that last a lifetime.
The University is proud of the experiences on offer at Glasgow, but not as proud as its students - the 2009 International Student Barometer ranks Glasgow fourth in the UK for student satisfaction and the 2009 National Student Survey records 90 per cent satisfaction among final-year students.
With more than 90 clubs and societies to choose from, two unions and fantastic facilities for sport in the city chosen to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow caters for its students whatever their interests. Student needs are at the heart of the University’s strategy. Continuous investment in facilities that support learning and experience includes the recent opening of a new multi-million pound student services centre in the heart of the University’s main campus.
The University’s compact main campus combines grand historical buildings with up-to-the-minute facilties. Based in the cosmopolitan west end of Glasgow, it's centred on a neo-gothic building with a spire offering breathtaking views across the city. In 2009, Lonely Planet travel guides named Glasgow in their top ten of world cities.
