Academic strengths
Abertay is the best modern university in Scotland for research in environmental sciences, law and psychology and launched Scotland's first degrees in bioinformatics and biotechnology. Another speciality is the world-leading computer games technology and computer arts degrees.
In 2009, Abertay became the UK’s first ever university centre of excellence for computer games education thanks to a £3 million investment from the Scottish Government.
Facilities
Abertay is one of the top universities in the UK for its IT facilities and in Scotland for the investment in library facilities. Networked PCs are available for use across the campus and the ratio of PCs to students is one of the best in any UK university. All students have free access to the internet and can also access the computer network from their home PCs' or from personal laptops using the various wireless zones across campus.
The multi-award winning library includes fully-equipped seminar rooms for teaching information and IT skills, group study rooms, a Centre for Language Learning and Self Study, and a specialist legal library. Part of the building has 24-hour access to IT and study facilities as well as a time-out area.
