St Lawrence College

St Lawrence College

Educating boys and girls from the age of 3 to 18 years, this safe and caring school is set in 45 acres of spacious, stunning grounds which house beautiful old architecture combined with new modern builds and facilities.

Founded in 1879, St Lawrence College is home to 615 pupils. A medium-sized school – small enough to ensure that individual pupils receive the attention and care they require, but large enough to provide outstanding facilities. Class sizes are small and pastoral support is strong. Academic standards are high, and an extensive choice of GCSEs and A-levels are offered, with an excellent success rate of pupils going on to their first choice university.

The school has a broad spread of nationalities and provides busy weekends with plenty of activities for boarders. Recent investment has created some truly remarkable boarding facilities, including a new girls’ boarding house and a modern purpose-built home for junior boarders. All rooms have adjoining bathrooms.

Frequently, visitors to the College remark on the excellent atmosphere within its walls, on the friendly familiarity that exists between staff and pupils, on the politeness that they see around them. There is a definite sense of respect for each member of the College community, whatever their place or age.

St Lawrence College

We try very hard to provide a 'home-from-home' for our boarding students, both in terms of comfort and atmosphere.  We are proud to say that most visiting families comment that our boarding facilities are the finest they have ever seen!  In recent years, a massive programme of investment has created some truly remarkable facilities for our boarders, and all rooms are en-suite.
First and foremost a full boarding school, we do also offer weekly and flexi-boarding options for younger pupils.

We recognise that our older pupils need more private space in which to live and work, so all our senior pupils are housed in single or double rooms with en-suite facilities. Our younger students are placed in rooms of between 2 and 5 pupils, with en-suite modern streamlined bathrooms. Plenty of secure storage space for possessions ensures that valuable personal items are kept safe. There are kitchens and tuck shops in each House so that hungry students can prepare snacks between meals, after sports matches and at weekends.

House Parents and their families live in accommodation within each Boarding House as well as a Resident Tutor. Boarding pupils have access to these members of staff at all times. The school also has an on-site Medical Centre run by qualified nursing staff who provide 24-hour cover throughout term-time for all pupils.

Kirby House welcomes Junior boarders from 7 to 13 years into its modern, spacious dormitories.  The youngest members of the boarding house (Years 3 to 6) are looked after by the Junior Housemother, and the older children (Years 7 and 8) by the Kirby Housemaster.
Children have plenty of space to call their own, and can personalise that space to make it feel just like home. Despite being bright, light and airy the dormitories also manage to feel cosy and warm and provide a wonderful place of relaxation and rest. A dedicated social area offers many opportunities for fun in the evenings and at weekends.

Bellerby is the boarding house for senior girls. It currently accommodates 60 teenagers with an age range of 13-18 years. A wonderful new boarding house opened in September 2013 sits in the heart of the school grounds. The accommodation is split over three floors and has a range of very modern en-suite single, double and quadruple rooms.

Lodge House is one of two senior boys’ boarding houses at St Lawrence College. It is situated at the top of the main school building (with some great views over the school grounds and the Channel to France) and accommodates some 61 boys.

Tower House is one of two thriving boy’s boarding houses at St Lawrence College situated in the main building. The House retains is traditional ethos, whilst welcoming pupils from all over the world. It is home to 60 boys.
