If you’re applying to an undergraduate course at any UK university or college, you’ll need to know about deadlines set by UCAS (the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). UCAS is the organisation which processes all applications to UK higher education courses and keeps you, universities and colleges informed of the progress of your application.

Application advice

Planning to start your UK studies in 2016?

You can start filling in your application now, and it's worth starting early to
give yourself plenty of time to complete all that's required.

For undergraduate courses starting in September/October 2016, the main application deadline is 15 January 2016.

There are some exceptions:

  • If you’re applying to the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge, applications need to be received by 15 October 2015
  • Most professional courses in medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine/science require applications by 15 October 2015
  • For some art and design courses, the deadline is 24 March 2016.

On all of these dates, the deadline for applications is 18:00 (6pm) UK time.

Don’t forget that a written reference needs to be added to your application form, so to avoid any stress, make sure the person writing your reference (usually a teacher or tutor) has enough time to write their part of your application.

Missed the deadline?

Although the main undergraduate deadline is 15 January 2016, many universities and colleges continue to accept applications from international students after that date. Check the individual course details on the UCAS search tool and contact the institution directly to ask if they will consider your application.

The UCAS system also allows you to add choices or reapply if you do not receive an offer the first time around. After 30 June, applications are automatically entered into Clearing – this allows you to apply for courses that still have places available. Find out How to apply through Clearing.
