Win your own UK adventure… and show off your talents to millions worldwide!

Are you an international student in the UK? Do you have a talent for photography?

Education UK is the British Council's website for students worldwide who want to study in the UK. The website receives over 2.2 million visitors each year. On the site, students can search for UK courses and scholarships, and find out all about UK student life.

As part of the GREAT campaign, we are looking for photographs to show students worldwide what UK student life has to offer. This is your chance to send a ‘postcard’ to the world!

The closing date for the competition is 28 February 2014, so get your camera ready! Find out more below. Good luck!

Show off your talents

We will publish selected photographs on the Education UK website plus other British Council digital channels and publications. Photos may also be published on Visit Britain and GREAT publications and digital channels.

Out of these selected photographs, we will then choose the winning entries. The judging panel includes representatives from the 10 Downing Street GREAT team, Visit Britain and the British Council.

About the prize

Ten lucky winners will each receive £250 worth of vouchers, and 20 runners-up will each win £25 worth of vouchers to spend on the Visit Britain online shop.

If you are in the UK, you may want to spend these vouchers on a trip to one of the UK’s top tourist attractions, train or travel tickets, hotel accommodation or perhaps tickets to a show or concert.

Alternatively, if you have left the UK by the time you come to use your vouchers, you could spend them on souvenirs and merchandise – the Visit Britain shop delivers to many countries worldwide.

Get creative!

We are looking for photos that represent what you love best about living and studying in the UK. You could take a photo of…

  • your favourite UK city or place in the countryside
  • your UK campus
  • an amazing music festival or event that you have been to in the UK

These are just some ideas, but feel free to be creative! Entries will be displayed online as ‘postcards from the UK’ – so think about what would work well for this format. We are looking for imaginative, eye-catching photos that capture the experience of discovering the UK.

Who can enter?

You can enter if you are an international student currently enrolled on a full-time course in the UK at a university, college, school or English language centre.

If you are under the age of 18, your entry must be submitted on your behalf by a parent/guardian over the age of 18 years who, in submitting the entry, agrees to and accepts these Competition Rules.

How to enter

To enter, please:

  1. Read the Terms and conditions
  2. Fill out the Application form
  3. Send your completed form and your photo to educationukstudents@britishcouncil.org

We can only accept one entry per participant… so choose your best shot!

Your photo must be one that you have taken yourself. We cannot accept photos taken by a third party because this may breach copyright rules.

If your photo features your friends or other people, please make sure you have asked their permission to enter your photo in this competition. This is to comply with UK data protection law (and to make sure no-one is upset!).

The photo should ideally be in JPG format, high resolution and no larger than 8MB. Please attach the photo to your email – unfortunately, we cannot download photos from photo-sharing websites.

The closing date for this competition is 17.00 (GMT) on 28 February 2014.
