 |
| A knitwear genius who sees himself as a
'vulgarian' and still takes fashion advice from his mother.
The 29-year- old is famous for saying, 'I only dress beautiful
women. I turn a lot down.' |
 |
| Studied: Macdonald studied a one-year
foundation course at Cardiff Art College before going
on to do a BA in Fashion Textiles in Brighton. He progressed
to an MA in knitwear at London's Royal College of Art
and in 1996 produced his first graduate show. |
 |
| Discovery: Isabella Blow, fashion
editor for Vogue, first noticed Macdonald's sparkling
dresses, but it was Karl Lagerfeld who recognised Macdonald's
talent and commissioned him to work for Chanel. |
 |
| Work: In 2000 he launched his first
ready-to-wear collection and in 2001, became chief designer
at Givenchy replacing fellow British designer Alexander
McQueen. |
 |
| Signature style: Macdonald's influences
come from his mother's penchant for glitter. His sisters
and mum were also ardent mohair fans. |
 |
| Accolades: Won the 2000 Glamour
Designer of the Year title and British Designer of the
Year 2001, at the Rover British Fashion Awards. |
 |
| British achievements: Macdonald
was the man who put British Airways air-stewardesses into
trousers for the first time in 30 years. He created a
new look uniform for the 20,000 uniformed BA staff saying,
'I want to bring glamour back to British travel. The girls
will look very sexy and the men will look like strong
heroes. They will be the envy of all the other airlines'. |
