| Why did you choose to study in the UK? |
| Despite being only two months away from graduation at the
National University of Singapore, I chose to venture into
the unknown realms of a foreign education at The University
of Salford. This is because I had a burning desire to experience
an overseas education and I chose the UK as it offers an
intellectually and culturally stimulating environment.
|
 |
| How did the British Council help with your application? |
| International officers from UK institutions visit Singapore
regularly and it is not difficult to arrange to meet them. In
addition, the British Council is always informed of their visits
prior to their arrival in Singapore. Through the British Council,
I had the opportunity to meet up with a representative from
The University of Salford to discuss my application.
|
 |
| What has been the highlight of your education in the UK? |
| The opportunity to experience a different culture and lifestyle
was one of the most significant experiences for me. Learning
to live independently and having to deal with frustrating and
unexpected situations is certainly a test of one's resilience in
the face of adversity. All of these and more are what made
studying in the UK such an unforgettable experience.
|
 |
| What are your future plans? |
| My immediate concern is to excel in my career and achieve
the most out of the six years I will be spending in the Republic
of Singapore Navy (RSN). This will include timely promotions,
salary rises and also the opportunity to experience a dynamic
and fast-paced lifestyle by alternating between shore-based
appointments and routine sailings. Adriana and I are also
planning to pursue an external master's qualification within the
next six years. I hope to couple my career development with
continual tertiary education.

 |
| Why did you choose to study in the UK? |
| The opportunity to experience a new environment with its new
culture, traditions and lifestyle were what attracted me to
study in the UK. I wanted an education that would stimulate
me not only mentally but also help me to develop as a person.
Education to me has become a mission and not just pure text
memorising and scoring for exams.
|
 |
| How did the British Council help you with your application? |
| Choosing the right course at the right university can be
daunting and challenging, especially when there are a myriad
of courses and universities to choose from. Advice from
friends, teachers and relatives always seemed to be based on
the cheapest option or other personal reasons like having a
safe environment.
|
 |
| The British Council was my source of accurate and valuable
information. Through the consultation offered by professional
and experienced counsellors, I had all my questions answered
and was assured that I had made the correct decision.
|
 |
| What has been the highlight of your education in the UK? |
| My two years at The University of Salford was one of the most
memorable experiences in my life. Shopping for groceries,
cooking, doing housework, laundry and hanging out with my
friends. All these taught me to be independent. I would never
have bothered to learn how to do all of these things had I
stayed in Singapore, as there is always someone to look after
my needs at home!
|
 |
| What are your future plans? |
| At the moment, I hope to be able to do well in my present
job, as well as explore new career opportunities. I am planning
to pursue a master's qualification and a diploma in music.
I have also been offered a partial scholarship by The
University of Birmingham to do my MSc in Marketing. If all
goes well, I will see myself in the UK once again. Otherwise,
I shall embark on an external degree with Bernard within the
next six years.
