National Gallery gets a brush up
Courtesy of www.britainonview.com Grand plans are afoot to turn Trafalgar Square into one of the grandest civic open spaces in the UK.
The pedestrianisation of the Square is due to be completed this summer.
Part of the overhaul will see the National Gallery, housed in the Square, get a radical new look.
The National Gallery, which houses one of the largest collections of paintings in the UK, is to receive the following improvements:
- a new entrance to the east wing
- the main entrance will be opened up and the Central Hall returned to its
former glory as a major picture gallery
- a refurbished eating area.
Admission is free to the gallery and the work is due to be completed in 2005.
