From 1949 onwards, Thomas and his wife Caitlin lived at The Boathouse, an atmospheric home overlooking the beautiful Taf estuary at Laugharne
November 2003 sees the 50th anniversary of the death of Dylan Thomas, one of Wales' greatest poets. A host of celebrations are planned, including the Dylan Thomas Festival to be held in his home town of Swansea. There will be exhibitions, film shows, guided tours, readings from his short stories, poems and much more.
Dylan Thomas collapsed in a hotel in New York just a few days short of his 39th birthday in November 1953. He was at the height of his literary powers, having completed what many consider to be his most famous work, Under Milk Wood. Courtesy of www.britainonview.com
The celebrations also provide a great opportunity to explore the beautiful countryside around the Gower that Dylan Thomas loved so much.
Indeed, Pembrokeshire contains the UK's only coast-based national park and one of Europe's finest stretches of coastline.
And if all of that doesn't interest you, Wales is the land of festivals and this summer is as packed with events as ever, including the famous National Eisteddfod, held this year at Meifod, mid Wales, from 2 to 9 August.
