The UK is home to hundreds of top
tourist attractions, some of which were
honoured at this year's national England
for Excellence awards. The awards, which
are viewed as the tourism equivalent of the
Oscars, recognise UK tourism excellence in
a number of areas.

 |
| Cornwall's Eden Project was named as
Visitor Attraction of the Year. The Eden
Project examines our relationship with
nature and encourages a respect for the
environment.
|
 |
| The Eden Project has over
100,000 plants representing 5,000
species from many of the world's climatic
zones. That's where Eden's famous climatic
conservatories come into their own - the
Humid Tropics Biome and the Temperate
Biome house some of the project's more
exotic plant life.

 |
| Another winner in the awards was
Muncaster Castle in Cumbria which
grabbed an Outstanding Contribution to
English tourism award. Muncaster Castle,
home to the Pennington family for
around 800 years, is packed full of history
and antique treasures. The site's visitor
numbers have also been boosted by stories
of a resident ghost and the recent
discovery of a nearby Roman road.

 |
| Do you know Big Ben? |
 |
| What do you think of when you picture
London? Well, according to a London
Tourist Board survey, Big Ben is still
London's most recognisable tourist
attraction. The great clock tower and bell
managed to beat its nearest rival, the
Tower of London, into second place.
