RAE sooner than expected
The next Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) is to be brought forward by 12 months to 2007, forcing universities to begin their preparations earlier.
The RAE judges the quality of higher education research in the UK and the results are used to determine funding priorities. The results are also a useful tool for anyone considering undertaking a postgraduate research programme.
The new timing will better align the RAE process with government spending reviews.
