Extending or applying for a new visa

'If you are an international student who needs a visa to study in the UK, and you want to stay on after your course finishes, you must make sure your visa permits you to do so.'

Extending or applying for a new visa
Working in the UK after your studies

The current Tier 1 ‘Post study work’ visa route is due to close in April 2012. If you graduate after this time with a recognised degree, PGCE or PGDE, you may be able to apply for a Tier 2 visa to work in the UK

The UK Government has also launched a new Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) category of the UK's points-based visa system. This category is for people who are internationally recognised as world-leading or who have potential world-leading talent in the fields of science and the arts.

Applications under Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) must be made from abroad, so you cannot apply if you are already in the UK.

Going on to further study

If you want to go on to study another course in the UK, make sure you check the latest UK Border Agency guidance for the latest information.
