About UK Transnational Education (TNE) programmes

A TNE programme is where a student can study for a qualifcation in an institution external to the country where the awarding institution is based. The UK is currently the leading provider of TNE programmes in Singapore. There are over 800 UK programmes ranging from pre university courses to undergraduate, postgraduate and professional qualifications offered here in Singapore. Why choose UK Transnational Education (TNE) programmes?

Even if you can’t travel halfway around the world and spend three years in another country, you can still gain an internationally respected UK education. Every year, more than 200,000 students study for UK qualifications in their own country. Join them by attending a local college or university where UK qualifications are taught, or by distance learning through the internet, email, CD-ROMs and other audiovisual material.

UK colleges and universities have a long history of providing education to students based overseas. Virtually all UK universities are involved in some form of overseas delivery of their qualifications. They may have twinning arrangements with institutions in your own country, where you can use their facilities, libraries and other resources.

All UK qualifications have to meet rigorous standards, and this applies just as much to ones you study in your own country as those you'd take in the UK. You'll be expected to meet the same standards as students studying in the UK and your work will be checked regularly to make sure this is the case. Your UK qualification is a mark of quality, proving to future employers that you're up to whatever task they set.

UK study choices to suit your needs

Study a UK qualification in your own country and you can fit your studies around other commitments. If you're a busy manager you could choose a course that involves little or no contact with teaching staff and work at your own pace. Or you may prefer a part-time course that's delivered through a local college, where you can meet lecturers and tutors face-to-face to discuss your studies. If you don't have other commitments, you may prefer to go into college every day.

What UK qualifications are available to study?

There is a wide variety of courses and programmes available to study. The choice will vary depending on which country you are studying in.

  • Undergraduate courses

You can study for an HND, foundation degree or degree in your own country from a choice of thousands available.

  • International foundation and pre-master's programmes

International foundation year courses and pre-master's courses will help you to improve your language skills and academic scores if you don't yet meet UK entry requirements. You can sometimes choose to study either part of or the entire course in your own country.

  • Postgraduate courses

As many postgraduate courses consist entirely of research, they're particularly easy to study in your own country.

  • Professional courses

Many qualifications are available by e-learning, and may also be delivered through local providers. Find out more by downloading a copy of  "UK Qualifications in Singapore: The Student's Guide 2013" or  searching  through the list of local providers.
