'Your students' union is designed for you and it is one of the most important buildings on campus. A great way to socialise and get involved with campus events, the union is a welcoming place for international students.'

Students Union
The students' union at your UK university (and some colleges) is the heart of the student body. The student union building is where many students spend their free time when on campus, either between classes or to relax after lessons.

A social hub

Students' unions range from small, cosy areas designed for socialising, to larger student centres, featuring everything from banks to nightclubs and bookshops to hairdressers. Unions vary in size depending on how large the student population is but typically, all unions will have common areas with seating, a student shop, a bar and a place to eat. All unions are dedicated student hubs, built with student welfare in mind.

Your students' union is a great place to meet friends, grab a coffee or have a cheap and tasty meal. Union prices tend to be student friendly, with discounted rates and lots of special offers too.

Unions are also perfect if you are looking for some evening entertainment, with many offering music events, quiz nights and club venues. You will often find that unions are the best place to pick up leaflets telling you what is on in your local town or city. They are also a good place to find out more about upcoming university events.

Campaigns and politcal groups

Student unions are also an important place for getting the student voice heard. Many unions actively campaign and raise the profile of key student issues - from discounts and price-checks, to campus representation and faith guidance.

You may also be able to find out about any international groups active at your institution (including details of student representatives who can speak on your behalf) via the students' union.

Societies and clubs

Many of your institutions clubs and societies will be based around the students' union and this will usually be where the offices of important clubs and groups are located. This could be anything from the student newspaper to the campus fund-raising group – making the union a great place to meet new people and get involved with activities.

The union is also the main meeting destination for sports groups and clubs - and there are often lots of different ones to choose from. From cricket to sailing, UK unions offer a huge range of sporting groups to join.
