My experience: Benedict Weissheimer

'Benedict Weissheimer from Germany is in the Lower Sixth (Year 12) at Gresham’s in Norfolk. He describes a typical day at UK boarding school.'

Benedict Weissheimer
Name: Benedict Weissheimer
Home country: Germany
UK school: Gresham's, Norfolk
Studying: International Baccalaureate

'My name's Benedict and I'm doing the International Baccalaureate with Economics, Physics and German as my higher levels and English, Maths and French as my standard levels.

A normal day at Gresham’s starts with an assembly in the chapel in which important notices are read out. Then there are five lessons before lunch. Tuesday, for example, starts with a double lesson of economics, followed by English, German and Physics.

Afternoons vary over the week. On several days we spend two hours playing sport. There is a great variety of sports to choose from: rugby and hockey (my choices for two terms) but also cricket, swimming, tennis or cross-country. On Mondays and Fridays there are scheduled afternoon lessons, so we have three more lessons before tea.

On weekday evenings we spend most of our time in our dormitories during prep time to finish all the work from school. Afterwards we get free time to finish the day in our own way.

Being a full-time boarder at Gresham´s has been a completely new experience. I am enjoying it very much and haven't once regretted my decision.'
