'My parents and I thought it would be a good idea to apply to this school because UK education is recognised around the world. I thought it was great! The whole education system was in English and the school provided lots of extra-curricular activities that were supported by the staff. Our headmaster encouraged us to participate in sports.

Because the school was new, my year was the oldest group and I was one of the prefects. The prefect system is a tradition in UK schools, which meant I had to set a good example for the younger pupils and encourage them to participate more. I took part in concerts and house competitions, including swimming and volleyball. I also played traditional Kazakh instruments and the violin in music concerts.

There were about 40 pupils of all ages in each house. It was great because it encouraged people to co-operate and develop teamwork. We had a lot of competitions which increased the feeling of community and people were more united because of it.

Studying at Haileybury Almaty was a great opportunity. The English language is spoken in many countries. It is one of the core languages and having good English will open the world to me in terms of employment and making friends from different countries.

The school broadened my circle of friends and my perception of the world and different cultures. I became more independent.'
