After studying at a UK boarding school you may choose to continue with your education, or instead turn your sights to a career. Whatever you decide, your life at a UK boarding school will provide you with the qualifications and confidence to succeed in the area you choose.

Higher education

Most students who stay on at their UK boarding school to complete A-level, International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualifications move on to higher education. Many universities have historic links with UK boarding schools, and students usually find that they are well prepared for life at university as their school experience has provided them the self-discipline required for independent study.

Many who have started their UK education in boarding schools have excelled at university before succeeding in their professional careers in fields such as medicine, academia and law.

Further education

If you are sixteen and have completed qualifications such as GCSEs at a UK boarding school but do not wish to continue on into the sixth-form, then further education colleges are an option. These provide academic courses such as A-levels, while also providing vocational options such as BTECs and NVQs.

You can search for higher and further education courses using the Search tool to the top-right of this website. You can learn more about study options after boarding school on the higher education and further education pages.

Careers

If you choose not to continue your studies after the age of sixteen, you will find that your UK boarding school education has given you excellent preparation for the worldwide job market. The language, motivational and personal skills you will have learned will be huge assets to any employer, while your overseas experience will be another bonus.

UK boarding schools are usually great at providing post-graduation support and most will have a careers adviser to help you understand the options available.
