University of Chester

Founded in 1839 as the first teacher-training college in the UK, the University of Chester has been expanding ever since. The latest acquisition of the Shell Technology Centre in Thornton will further expand the portfolio of courses, with new engineering programmes available for September 2014 entry.

Classified as a “highly trusted sponsor” by the UKBA for the recruitment of international students, the University offers overs over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, with the Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning attracting the largest numbers of international students.

The Faculty of Business, Enterprise and Lifelong Learning has a very strong Business Advisory Council that gives us strategic access to key world class businesses such as Airbus, Bank of America, General Motors (Vauxhall), HSBC, Tata Steel, and Urenco and actively work with a network of over 300 businesses and organisations in the UK.

University of Chester has also a national reputation for work based learning. Most undergraduate students in Year 2 of their degree spend 5 weeks working for local, national or international organisations as a part of their degree programmes. Each year the University successfully finds placements for approximately 1,000 undergraduate students.

The University campuses are conveniently located within less than 1 hour’s journey to Manchester and Liverpool, and two hours from London, offering students easy international access to the region.

Chester itself is a popular tourist destination, with a wide variety of stores, restaurants and nightlife, all within walking distance of the main campus. In fact, the main campus is only a 15 minute drive away from Cheshire Oaks, the UK’s largest designer shopping outlets. Chester is also home to all-year-round arts festivals, event exhibitions and attractions, including the famous Chester Races, the Rowing Regatta, Blue Planet Aquarium, the internationally acclaimed Chester Zoo, and the 1,000 year old Chester Cathedral.
