Apply to study through UCAS (2013 applications)

These are the key dates for your UCAS application for undergraduate study in the UK:

• Mid-September 2012 (the year before the course starts) – 2013 applications open.
• 15 October 2012 – closing date for applications to courses in medicine, dentistry, veterinary sciences/medicines and Oxford and Cambridge universities.
• 15 January 2013 – closing date for EEA students, except for art and design courses with a 24 March deadline.
• 31 March 2013 - if you sent your application by 15 January, UK institutions should send their decisions to UCAS by this date (but they can take longer).
• 8 May 2013 – if UCAS receive decisions from your UK institutions by 31 March, you need to reply to any offers by this date. If you don’t, UCAS will decline offers on your behalf.
• 9 May 2013 - if you sent your application by 15 January, UK institutions must send their decisions to UCAS by this date. If they don't, UCAS will make any outstanding choices unsuccessful on their behalf.
• 6 June 2013 - if UCAS receive decisions from your UK institutions by 9 May, you need to reply to any offers by this date. If you don’t, UCAS will decline offers on your behalf.
• 30 June 2013 – closing date for international students outside of the EEA.
• 18 July 2013 – if you sent your application by 30 June, UK institutions will send their decision to UCAS by this date.
• 25 July 2013 - if UCAS receive decisions from your UK institutions by 18 July, you need to reply to any offers by this date. If you don’t, UCAS will decline offers on your behalf.

Choosing the right UK institution

Things to think about when choosing the right UK institution for you:

• does it have the facilities you need?
• is it in the city or the countryside?

• is it close to UK friends/relatives?
• can you cover the course fees?
• is there any accommodation on offer?
• can you cover the cost of living?

Apply for a student visa

In addition to the point requirements, the following are required to support the application:

• a signed printout of your on-line application form
• a completed self assessment form (Appendix 8 for students applying as an adult or appendix 9 for for students applying as a child)
• a current passport with at least one unused full page (front and back)
• one recent passport–sized colour photograph taken against a white background
• evidence of your Hong Kong/Macau immigration status
• the application fee (payable during your appointment at the Visa Application Centre by EPS, MasterCard, Visa or Cashier's Order made payable to "British Consulate-General Hong Kong")
• all supporting documents listed on the Adult Student or Child Student checklist, as appropriate.
• any other supporting documents required by PBS Tier 4.
• biometric data (digital photo and fingerprints) will be collected at the Visa Application Centre when you submit your application and pay the fee.
Original documents are required - faxes, photocopies, internet/e-mail printouts do not meet the PBS Tier 4 requirements. The only exception is electronic bank statements that have been stamped on each page by the bank. In addition to providing originals of all supporting documents, you will need to supply a photocopy of any document you wish to be returned to you.
