'If you are receiving your HKDSE or HKALE results, rest assured that UK universities and colleges are ready to welcome you! There are thousands of courses to choose from. '
If you receive at least two HKALE passes, or a minimum of three HKDSE subjects at Levels 3,3,4, you can start applying for undergraduate degree courses - if you have not already done so - and secure a place for this September.
If you did not achieve the grades for university entry, don’t worry! There are plenty of options for you. You can take a one-year International Foundation programme which is a bridging course between secondary school and university. Or you can join two-year Higher National Diploma or Foundation Degree courses, which lead into Year Three of a Bachelor Degree programme. For these courses, you need a minimum of three HKDSE subjects at Level 2.
UK universities and colleges will be making offers to Hong Kong Double Cohort students from now until early September. However, you should act quickly if you want to secure a place on your chosen course!
You can find out more about the pathways to UK education from Hong Kong’s New Academic Structure on our download page, including the admissions requirements for 60 universities and colleges.
What you should do next
Not yet applied to a UK university?
It is not too late! Once you’ve got your results, start your search for courses on the Education UK website and contact institutions directly. International officers are ready to help you. You can also come to our Education UK information day on Saturday 14 July and Sunday 5 August and meet with representatives from more than 60 universities at the Education UK exhibition on Friday to Saturday 17 – 18 August. Education agents can also help.
Already holding a conditional offer for a UK university?
If you are already holding a conditional offer for a place at a UK university and you achieved the grades required, your place will now be confirmed. Congratulations! You should now apply for your student visa and plan for your departure. If you have not heard from the institution yet, contact the international office directly.
If you did not achieve the grades, contact the international office at the institution as soon as possible. They may still be able to confirm your place, particularly if you just missed the grades required. If they can’t, don’t worry. You have your insurance choice too. If you achieved the grades this institution asked for, the insurance offer will be confirmed. If not, contact the institution, to see if it can help.
If you have still not secured a place, start contacting other institutions. As long as you achieved minimum grades for university or college admission, you should find a course that meets your needs!
UCAS Clearing
New applicants, and those who did not secure places but achieved minimum grades for UK university entry can also use the UCAS Clearing system to manage your application. Visit www.ucas.com to find out about Clearing, designed to help students like you secure last-minute places. Although places in Clearing are advertised after UK students receive their exam results in August, many institutions will have places available for international students now. You can start contacting them straight away. You can also use the UCAS Clearing system for applying to Further Education colleges and universities that offer HND and Foundation Degree courses.
International Foundation programmes
There are hundreds of international foundation programmes listed on the Education UK website. Start your search now and apply directly to the institution, or through an agent. International Foundation programmes are offered by universities, private colleges and state Further Education colleges. Their staff are ready to help!
