'Nightlife is a big part of UK culture. Regular comedy nights, club events, shows and gigs make the UK one of the world's biggest entertainment destinations. Buzzing, vibrant and with something for everyone, UK nightlife is not to be missed.'
So much to see and do
It's not all nightclubs though - the UK has a huge selection of other types of venues and entertainment. For those who like to laugh, why not head to a comedy night? There are hundreds of comedy clubs across the UK, plus several big entertainment venues that host one off events - usually with discounted tickets for students.
Music fans will be spoilt for choice – the UK is home to some of the world's greatest arenas and venues. London's 23,000 capacity O2 arena has welcomed many performers over the years – from The Spice Girls to Led Zeppelin. There are smaller O2 arenas across the country as well as lots of other venues and stadiums.
For quieter music evenings, try heading to your local pub or bar. Many have guest bands performing and some even run open mic nights if you fancy taking centre stage. Music aside, traditional UK pubs are a good place to experience nightlife and you'll find many of the locals there on Friday or Saturday nights.
Cultural events
A night at the theatre is another popular evening activity and the UK's thriving theatre scene is full of shows and events. From productions such as the long running and much-loved Les Miserables, to new cutting-edge pieces, the UK's stage scene is eclectic, diverse and wonderful. Most cities have one or two theatres which host touring shows and London's theatre-land district is renowned for having some of the best theatrical events in the world.
If you are out with friends then you could try heading to a bowling alley or local cinema. Many offer student deals and can easily cater for large groups. You might also like to try a cinema trip with a difference: pop-up cinemas can be found in unusual places across the UK - from coastal beaches to castle grounds. In the summer months many events (including theatre shows and music gigs) are held outdoors. You can find out more about events in UK stately homes and gardens on the National Trust website.
