My experience: Nikhil Lavanian (India)

Nikhil was born in Bangalore but went to schools all over India because his father was in the Indian Air Force.

After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Commerce from Osmania University in Hyderabad, Nikhil set up his own business - a gaming parlour and coffee shop. In 2006 he passed on the business to his parents and went to work as an online fraud investigator with Google. Nikhil said:

 

‘I worked there for close to four years before deciding it was time to do my master's in management. I decided to come to England for my master’s because I wanted to get back into a job as soon as possible and most MBA (Master’s in Business Administration) courses in the UK are one-year courses, unlike the two-year courses in other countries.

 

'The infrastructure and quality of education here is fantastic and working in a diverse environment helps you learn at so many new levels.'

 

But it’s not just the academia that has impressed Nikhil. He explains: ‘It’s been a wonderful experience since I arrived here. I’ve had many opportunities in my university and joined the committee of many societies like the international student society and the entrepreneurs’ society. This helped me gain a lot of new experience and new friends.

 

'I'm a student representative of my university. It was just great to experience such different cultures and work and live in such an exciting learning environment.’

 

Nikhil is glad he chose to live and study at a university in London: ‘Travelling in London is great, with probably the best transport system I have ever come across, friendly people, cuisine from all parts of the globe and interesting events throughout the year'.
